Hi guys, I'm new here and I have a question that may sound a bit silly. ::)

I'm a Canadian citizen and got married to my Saudi husband almost a year ago, here in Canada. He was studying in Canada a few years ago (which is how we met) and is now studying in the US under a Saudi Scholarship (as an international student).

Long story short: does Canada Immigration/government get in contact with the Saudi Arabia government any time during this application process??? I know it sounds silly but I'm really new to all of this! I ask because Saudi government is really strict about whom you marry and I think they would go as far as taking away his scholarship which would mean he would need to go back to Saudi. I honestly don't know what would happen if they found out.

SO...does Canada contact the home country of the applicant any time during the application process?

I would appreciate any help :)

He'll need a police certificate from his home country, if he lived there after he turned 18. But what the Saudi government would do with this info, I don't know.

Thank you for your reply canadianwomen. So, do you know if this is the only thing he will need from his home country? Will canadian immigration need to get in contact with his home country for anything else?

When Canada does the background check on him, they will contact the Saudi government. I don't know what they say to the foreign governments, though, as to why they are doing the background check. By the time they get to the background check, they are usually ready to issue the visa (if everything is OK), so your husband would then be ready to go to Canada.

For your sake I hope they don't contact the Saudi govt. Most of the govts in the Middle-east are messed up and Saudi is no exception (I'm sure you agree) I lived in Oman all my life, well at least till i turned 18, i love the place. But since i was there after i turned 18 too, i needed to get the police clearance from there. Lucky i'm not an Omani citizen, i remember reading on their website that they wouldn't give police clearance for immigration to Omani citizens (or something like that). That is totally weird. The only time they would contact the govt or local police is for background check (maybe), this would be my best guess. Hope things work out for you.

cheers and good luck

Hello NarNar,
I am in a similar situation however, am preparing to marry my Saudi fiance. I am curious how you went about this, and hid it from the Saudi Govt. We have been told by a few immigration officials that if we get married, the govt may find out when I file my taxes and have to put his info on it. Also, I am curious if you took his last name, and if that would play a factor in the govt finding out. Obviously, you have been married for over a year so, so far so good, right? Please help! Very worried but anxiously awaiting to marry.

I would appreciate any help :)

Hi! I would like to know what happen to you guys? Did the US government contact the Saudi Arabian Government in order to for your husband to get his residence status in the states? Was the scholarship taken away?

Please I will really appreciate if you could answer me, I found myself in the same situation and we are scare that my husband's scholarship gets removed because he got married while he still studying abroad.

Thank you!!!
