Hi, my name is Heather and I am currently in the process of trying to figure out how to sponsor my American partner. He and I have been in a relationship for over a year now and are expecting a child together. We are not married. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has been in this situation and would be willing to talk to me and help explain a few things to me. ANY feedback on this willbe helpful, as my child is due in three months and I would like to get him here, legally, in time to see his daughter born. Thanks again.

bumping post to keep it on first page

1. Have you lived in a Common/law relationship for 1 year, from post apparently not. If so, to be considered Common/law you are going to have to live together for 1 year continuously. Either that or you will have to marry, before you can sponsor him as a spouse. You should start your reading : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp

actually we have been told we fit into the conjugal relationship catergory. So, we know we can, just looking for ingo on how and what it entails.

If both of you are free to marry, then there is very little chance of a successful conjugal spousal visa.

Conjugal partner category is for applicants who due to legal or forced reasons cannot marry. Considering one of you is in the USA, and the other in Canada, that is an impossible concept to sell to CIC.
