Sponsoring girlfriend from India

Guys I need your help,I want to sponsor my girlfriend and her son,but there is slight mistake that in her passport she has her surname written but in her son's birthcertificate,her surname is missing.will an affidavit be enough to prove that both the person are same. If any of you have any idea regarding this,then please kindly suggest,your help will be highly appreciated

Maybe its better to correct it in her sons birth certificate. I think corrections can be done with the local state government and i assume it wont take too much time.
