If my children ever decide to move in with us in Canada, will they be allowed to attend school whilst their application is processing? 6 -8 months is a long time to be out of school. I guess the only other option if not would be to apply outland and have them stay with their dad in the US. I would prefer to move them here asap if the situation ever comes up. Thanks!

Your children can come to Canada to school while waiting for PR process however they would need study visas to be able to attend school in Canada. Also be prepared to pay international tuition rates for your kids and also find a school willing to take your kids in.

Could they just go to public school?

It doesn't matter if it a public school or private school or a catholic school. You still have to pay international rates for your kids. They still require study visa to attend school in Canada.

If you tried to register your kids in school, they will want to see kids birth certificates. Once they notice your kids are not Canadian born, they will want to see their immigration status such as study visa or PR.

This is incorrect. See here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=488&t=15 and here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-minors.asp. As their mother is (or will be) a PR, they would not require a study permit.

It is up to individual schools/school boards to decide whether to charge international tuition. From the experiences of others here on the forum, the majority don't charge. Quite a few spousal/common-law PR applicants and their dependent kids have come here to wait out the processing and didn't have any issues registering for school, even with both the parent and children on visitor status.

Ah, that's good to hear. Thank you so much! :)

Thanks for informing more on this. I was under the assumption, that only Canadian and PR can go to school. Everyone else must get study visa and pay international tuition rates.
