Hi all

Hope that 2010 is treating you all well!!
I have a question and i hope that someone can shed some light on it.
Im a 38 year old male living in South Africa, I have a full time job and a clean criminal record with a good bill of health now my question is: my mother, brother and two sisters live in Canada they have been there for just over 10 years and I'm wondering if they will be able to sponsor me or do I have to go through the Skilled Worker / Professional Immigration. I'm a little hesitant to go that route as I don't think I will qualify ( enough points )
Please someone help as its stressing me out :(

No, they will not be able to sponsor you anymore, far too late for that I'm afraid. But having family in Canada does give you extra points for the skilled worker category, so that's something.

Thank you soo much mitamata
Not the answer I was hoping for but at least there is some sort of light at the end of the tunnel
Everyone have a great day and those who are awaiting approval ... good luck guys hope you have a speedy and positive response.

Well, it depends on what province you are in. They can't sponsor you through the regular federal family stream, but some provinces have family-based programs. What province(s) are they in?

Hi shawonsarker84
So each province has different immigration policies?
thank you so much for your input.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those. I guess cause I rarely hear about anyone using them.

Hi mitamata

thanks for the link, don't worry we are all human and sometime miss things
again thanks to everyone who replied to my post
have a great day

Derek

You're welcome.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but BC does not have a program for sponsoring brothers or sisters. I don't believe parents can sponsor non-dependent children through the provincial program either, but you might want to look into it nonetheless.

Hi Karlshammar thank you for replying i really appreciate it
They live in British Columbia, Vancouver

Hi Karlshammar
Dont be sorry all it means is that i will try through the Skilled Worker / Professional Immigration instead of Family class sponsorship, I'm not going to give up as i want to live in Canada. Ive been to Vancouver numerous times on holiday and i must admit Canada looks like a great country to live in.
Again thanks for all your help and maybe next time the next post i will be entering will be my date when i will be landing in Canada :) (hold thumbs)

Hey, hopefully!

BC also has a provincial program for skilled workers. I don't know the exact requirements for it, but I believe it is much faster than the federal (FSW) program. Check it out and see if you qualify; if you do, it would be perfect if you intend to live in BC. :)
