Hello all

Someone I know sponsored their parents back in 2008, parents landed on 2013. But due to personal and financial issues recently they are not able to support them. Parents have gone on social welfare. Will the government make the sponsor pay for it later? I read it on the following website, is it true??

That is my understanding, and the article you linked states very clearly that the sponsor must repay all social welfare payments made to the dependent family members.

Yes, the sponsor will need to pay back every penny to the government for all social welfare paid to the parents during the undertaking (10 years from the parents landing as PRs).

Agreed. The government will hold you responsible for paying back any welfare your parents take from 2013 to 2023. You agreed to this condition by signing the sponsorship papers.
