Hi,
I'm applying for Permanent Residency in Canada under the family class (my husband's sponsoring me). My husband lives with me now in Paraguay and is going back in August for law school. He plans on taking out student loans. Will this in any way hurt our application? Should we inform the government of our intention? I don't think they'll look very fondly on relying on student loans while sponsoring someone :/
Thanks,
Abi

The fact that he will be applying for student loan shouldn't affect the sponsorship at all. The only time they will disapprove a sponsor is if they are on Welfare. Student loan =/= social assistance. I am paying off my students loans as we speak and I was approved when I applied to sponsor my husband

i have a question related to this, social assistance.
my sponsor to be, my husband took the student loan 3 years ago and it's still ongoing. should we inform about this on our application?
or it's going to affect my application procedure?

Like said above, student loans are not social assistance. Much like a bank loan, you have to pay student loans back. Welfare you do not.
However, your sponsor should explain to CIC how he is going to pay for school and be able to support you when you move up (through student loans, savings, help from family, working part-time, etc...), but OSAP or any other form of student loan is not considered social assistance. They could refuse you for financial reasons if they think he doesn't make enough or have enough help to prevent you from going on welfare.
