I am a citizen living abroad and planning to sponsor my common law partner for PR. I read threads on this forum that the landing deadline is 1 year from medical exam, and for spousal sponsorship, the medical is required upfront with application. I checked my local consulate processing time is 11 months which makes me think the approval of PR visa will be tight with the landing deadline. Since I'm not suppose to quit my job, sell car, etc until PR visa is approved... I am anticipating we won't have enough time to wind up everything and leave for good on time.
If my spouse is to land and return for packing, etc, will I (the sponsor) be considered as reestablishing my resident status the same date my spouse lands? Must I accompany when she lands? I need at least 2-3 months to wind up everything.
Thank you!
