Hi,
Let's say i am from China and going to do my PHD in Canada, can i sponsor my same sex partner to come with me? Let's say he is from Kazakhstan. Both of the countries doesn't allow same sex marriages. How can we be together in Canada? Can we get married in another country and will it be recognized by Canadian immigration? Thanks.

Canada do recongize same sex marriage. It doesn't matter where you get married.
BUT looks like you are applying to be an international student and wants to get a visa for your spouse.
Post in the international student section for applying spousal visa (work or study or visitor).
This section is for PRs or citizens to sponsor their spouses to become PR.

No, we do live in different cities but often visiting each other.

Then your partner can’t apply for a SOWP. The only people that qualify are spouses or common law partners. You haven’t lived together for 1 continuous year.

what if we get married in a third country? As far as i know for conjugal partners, living together is nit a must considering the reasons.

You are not applying for sponsorship you are applying to accompany an international student. Yes if you get married you can apply to come to Canada with your partner. Families of international students are not guaranteed visas/permits but you can apply and see if you are approved.
