Just wondering, what exactly is an engagement party? Right after my husband proposed to me at the airport, we went over to his sister's house and had a little party (probably 10 of us?). It was a Stag & Doe. Then I had a Bridal Shower here in the US with all of my family and friends (but I didn't include that in the pictures in my application, because I'm not sure if that really fits in). Did any of you put down your Stag & Does or Bridal Showers? Our "Stag & Doe" wasn't a combined bachelor/bachelorette party though, just a fundraiser for the wedding type. Our bachelor/bachelorette parties were 2 days prior to the wedding, which I did include in the pictures.

An engagement party would be if you brought togehter a group of people to announce your engagement. We didnt have one. We answered no to the question, but did mention the bridal shower and that we had time constraints excluding us from a proper party - though we did have a few small get togethers with family and friends.

I'd explain the other events for sure, they are all part of the grand scheme of thigns right? :)

If i were you, I would get as many things together and send it to CIC as possible .. I think the more stuff you submit the stronger case you have~! best of luck!

the stag doe party counts it was a party with the soul purpose of celebrating the engagement
if you had done it separately, you "could" included but its not quite the same thing

i say attach a letter explaining what you did here

Thank you all for your input! What confused me was that technically an engagement party is where both sides of the family attend. In this case, it was an engagement party, but just with my husband's siblings and his sister's friends, not even parents. This is because of the distance of his parents, and obviously my family being in the US.

I will mention the other parties, for sure. I will not however include pictures of my bridal shower in the states, because it's only my side of the family and difficult to tell what's really going on. But I will mention it. Thank you. :)

I think it's an old fashioned question :P We announced it over a casual lunch with my husband's parents but it was in no means a party. Aside from that, we held a get together with friends at a pub - again, very casual and not really a formal engagement party (like how you see in the movies lol) but we just described this in our app. and printed out a screenshot of the Facebook event announcement we made to our friends.

Annoyingly, I found - me being sentimental - a receipt from that night months after we sent our application which we could have photocopied and included as proof, but I don't think it matters that much. Just describe how it was for you; not much else you can do but tell the truth! :)

oh ekristensen THANK YOU! I would have forgotten all about the Facebook event announcements had you not mentioned it! His sister did infact put up an announcement for our Stag and Doe. A million thank yous.

Hehe no problem! It was just a fleeting thought when we were putting together our application and I was doubtful it was even still up there (the event having been a year before) but it turns out Facebook saves them :) Good luck!

Already printed out and sitting in a pile right next to me. ;-)

They can recycle it for all I care, but at least it's one less thing I'll have to bring to the interview if need be, right? MySpace also saves everything. I found an e-mail from my husband dating back to 2006 (thank god) considering that was the message that reconnected us. Thank you Internet.

i originally put " no that's stupid" as my answer for that question but my husband made me print out a new copy of the page and write something like we didn't feel it was necessary or what ever ::)

if he had let me fill the forms the way i wanted to it would be an instant in
or i would be institutionalized, one or the other

we had our engagement celebration just by ourselves first and later with all family members. we sent info about these both events to cic letting them decide what they would prefer. ;)

Hi Nyssa,

Should you receive an interview you will have to bring it. Actually, you have to bring everything...they ask, in the request letter, for originals of all proofs to be brought to the meeting...

Here's to you not getting an interview request, considering the *weight* of your proof :-)

;D Hahaha, very funny! Let me guess: you're the New Yorker and your hubby's the bluenose? I hope NB is ready for your humour, but I for one LOVE it!

We never heard of such a party either, and wondered about it for a while... then finally just wrote something like "It is not a tradition among our family or friends to celebrate in a formal way", and, like most of us, since our families are in different countries, a joint dinner or something was pretty much impossible. But we did include some photos of my bachelorette party which was probably good proof since it showed me out in public (dressed as a prostitute bunny) with a huge sign around my neck saying "Son coeur n'est plus à prendre!" ("her heart is taken!"). Would anyone who wasn't in love do such a thing?

I doubt you would get an interview nyssa, since your case is straightforward and your relationship is so unquestionably genuine. Once you get past the sponsorship hurdle (and there's nothing at all there which technically disqualifies your hubby to sponsor) I don't see why they would doubt your relationship. Especially as tgchi points out, you're sending them an entire old-growth-redwood-forest's worth of supporting PoR ;)

You need to get that app sent off asap so you can get busy with the REAL stress and worry and waiting ;)
Cheers,
