Hello everyone,

I have an active application to sponsor my parents under the Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship program. I was approved as a sponsor last year and their PR application is currently in process at their local visa office. One of the requirements when applying is for the sponsor to be living in Canada. But given that my sponsorship application was approved, does anybody know if I need to remain in Canada while my parents PR application is in process? Am i required to remain living in Canada until they successfully land? I'm considering moving outside Canada for a job but the last thing i want to do is jeopardize my parents applications. I'd appreciate any information you can share on this.

Thanks,
Ahmed

Yes, you need to continue living in Canada until their application is fully processed and approved. If you move outside of Canada for a job now, then you'll put the application at risk of being refused due to your non-residency and no longer meeting the requirements to sponsor.

The whole point of the program is to reunite children with their parents in Canada. So your application is at risk if you move until your parents have landed as PRs. Parents will also be able to access healthcare and other services while many will never work or pay taxes so it is expected that at the very least the children will be working and paying Canadian taxes to pay into the system.
