Hello everyone,

I hope this is in the right spot. Im posting here since we applied under family class. I landed in September and this june, my wife has to get surgery and will be unable to work for 2 months. I remember reading that I cant go on EI - and if I do, she has to pay for it, but is she able to get medical EI (assuming she meets all the qualifications, which she does)?

EI is employment insurance - that's not the same thing as social assistance/welfare. Even disability insurance is not the same thing as social assistance, so there shouldn't be any problem. My husband sponsored me and I landed in January 2011 - he has been on a medical disability leave since September without any issue.
