3 months after i, the wife of my sponsor, landed in Quebec, my husband got a permanent disability by accident and is unable to work, i dont work either since i'm learning french full time... we are worried over the matter whether we should apply for his disability.
Will i lose my PR?(we have a 2 year probation PR) Will he or i have to repay everything back to government? What if we are unable to repay it back, will i be deported?

What if we apply for welfare instead?(which pays less) it says in the guide that if i apply for it then my husband will have to repay for it, but it doesn't say what happens if only my husband applies for it, does he still have to repay or is it only when i apply for it ?

i'm so confused and our savings are about to run out.
Any help and advice is appreciated.

You should apply for disability :)

My reasoning is as follows:

You can sponsor while you are on disability, but people who are on welfare cannot sponsor.

+1. Your husband should apply for disability.

You both can be on disability, but not welfare. Actually I'm not sure what happens if the SPONSOR goes on welfare after the applicant has their PR, but if the applicant goes on welfare, the sponsor must pay it back.

The sponsor cannot technically go on welfare alone - welfare is assessed at the family level. So any welfare taken will have to be paid back.

Hi ,
You husband can apply for Both or either one of them , Nothing will happen to your PR you will not lose it and they won't deport you .
The 2 Year condition is only if the relationship between you and your husband break down and don't live other anymore .
If you apply for welfare during the 1st 3 years your husband will be asked to pay it back , even if he can't NOTHING will happen to your PR , But you and Him won't be able to sponsor other family members in the future .

he can apply for both welfare and disability at the same time? is that even permitted?
if yes and he does apply for both, will he have to pay back the welfare part or is it only when i apply for it?
i'm a student and i want to take out a loan, will that prevent us from getting social assistance?
thank you guys for all replies so far.
