Hello All,

We've included countless emails, rental contracts, photos and letters in the Immigrant application under the "Proof of Relationship to Sponsor" section. I've just noticed that at the end of IMM 5540 in the Sponsor application there's a note that reads "On a separate sheet of paper, provide any additional details of your current relationship that you believe would help to prove your relationship is genuine and continuing.". My question is, do the applications get separated at any point? I mean, do the Sponsor's application and the Immigrant's application get put into separate files or are they always kept as a whole?

In either case, would you suggest that we include copies of some of the "Proof of Relationship to Sponsor" items from the Immigrant applicaiton in the Sponsor application or are we safe just including it once in the Immigrant application and trusting that the IO will read through the proof and apply it to both applications?

Many thanks!

M.

The sponsor's application and the immigrant's application stay together.
You should both write something for that "on a separate sheet of paper, provide details ..." part of the applications. This is your chance to explain your relationship and how you feel about each other.
You don't need to send in duplicate proof of the genuineness of your relationship. Some people have put all the proof of a genuine relationship together, numbered the pages (or use tabs), put a table of contents at the beginning, and then just refer to a specific page when answering questions. Sending in duplicates of evidence will just make everything harder for the visa officer to understand.

Ok great thanks for your help. I'll include a letter and attach it to the form and just make mention of the other proof included later in the applicaiton.

All the best.

For the sponsor's app, we included an essay by my husband telling the story from his point of view. The rest of the proof was kept together in a separate (HUGE) folder which we labeled and referred to.
