Hi there,

I am new of this forum. I would like to ask some questions related to my friend, who sponse her husband. The backgroud is the guy doesn't have a vaild visa or passport, all expired since 2008. The immigration lawyer said she could do it, but might not succeed for one application. It will probably take about years, and several application to get it done. Not sure if it will succeed though. They have submitted the application recently. They are legally married in Canada, and now the wife is pregrant.

I am just wondering if it means the guy is still considering staying in Canada illegally with the fact they have submitted the family sponsorship application. Will he get a work permit during the application? Can he get one? What happened if he got refused? Will he be forced to leave the country right after knowing the result of the application?

Thank you for your help.

I was sort of under the impression you could not do it without a valid passport/ or visa...but Im pretty sure an immigration lawyer knows better than I do (i'd hope)...What country is he from and why can't he renew his passport or visa? Seems like that would be the better way to go. I'm sure it's very different in other countries...but it only took me two weeks to get my passport.

He doesnt have to have a valid visa but he has to have a valid passport. Can he not get his passport renewed at his country's embassy here?
