I attempted to search this online and here for a similar case, but was unsuccessful.

An application to sponsor parents have been accepted and in the process, however one of the parents holds a PGWP that is expiring in a couple of months.

No update on the parents' PR application. Can the work permit be extended?

Being a principle applicant on a PR application doesn't qualify to extend whatever status exist in Canada prior to submitting the PR application without some sort of additional condition, does it?
