Hey all, my partner and I will be applying for his PR via the inland common-law route. He is currently here in Canada as a tattoo artist on a 2 year closed work permit from Brazil that began October 2019. We have been living together in Toronto since June 2019, but he just moved in with me without any official documentation while waiting for his WP to be approved - he wasn't on the lease, didn't get a cell phone plan right away, etc. The first government issued proof we have that he lived with me was when he listed my address on his WP in October.

Firstly, and the thing I'm most worried about, is that I work as a server in a restaurant. My income isn't completely accurate on my Notice of Assessment - I don't keep track of my tips. I know this is really stupid of me - I'm nervous now that when I go in for the interview and they talk about being able to support him if he weren't working, they will ask about this and we'll be totally screwed. Anyone have any insight into how much they ask about where I work, as a sponsor? My NoA says I make roughly $25k/year.

2 - I was in a common-law relationship before, we were living together for 9 years - but my ex refused to put us as common-law while doing taxes, or have joint anything. It wasn't the healthiest of relationships. As we didn't have anything in both of our names - he had the mortgage and I had the rest of the bills - should I mention him still? What does this mean for the CRA? Ugh.

3 - for the form 5406, my partner doesn't have any family or dependents. Do we still fill it out with just me listed as his common-law partner?

4 - To prove we were living together since June, I'm not sure what we have. I can get a letter from my roommate notarized, and see if we can find any receipts where my partner had something delivered to my old address, and I believe we might have a receipt for payment at a hospital before he had OHIP - would this be enough? As far as that goes, we've since moved (in December) and both our names are on the new lease, so we could wait until then. Is this a better option?

5 - His work permit ends October 2021. If we waited until December 2020 to apply, and applied for an open work permit at the same time, could this be denied? What would happen then? Should he apply for that, or an extension on his current closed work permit? I know his PR permit wouldn't be processed in time before his work permit ends, so that's worrying. It's why I was thinking to get this done in June, but I'm not sure we have enough proof he was living with me. I also read that the OWP application is a pilot project that ends this July, so I don't know how that affects all this.

6- side note - I don't know if anyone can help with this, but:
I'm trying to get my partner's taxes done, and asked his employer for his t4 - they said he wasn't on payroll for Nov/Dec 2019, and only have him on payroll for Jan 2020. (he worked in both November and December, but not a lot) He hurt his shoulder in February and didn't work that whole month, and was scheduled to go back to work March 16th. Obviously that fell through what with COVID shutting everything down. What should we do here? Legally, on his work permit, he has to be on payroll, right?

Thanks so much for any insight.
