Special case and need some advices!!

Hello all,

I am a Canadian Citizen, but living/working aboard in the United States now. I had declared my non-residence status back in 2011 and it was recognized and confirmed by CRA of Canada.

However, I do have one concern. I'm recently married my wife who is a Chinese nationality and our first baby coming in few days will born in United States. I would like to ask what are the legal steps to help grant a Canadian citizenship by inheriting my citizenship? And I heard the legal case after April 2009, is that only my first born can inherit the citizenship from me, but not my second child and after that, is that true?My last question would be, how do I able to help my wife to apply for Canada as landed immigrant from me, am I required to be moving back to Canada for that to be applicable?

I'm very happy to contribute income tax back to Canada as part of my duty if that's required.

Provided you were born in Canada or are a naturalized Canadian, all of your children born abroad will be Canadian. Don't know where you got the idea that only your firstborn will be get citizenship....

There are no legal steps. You apply for the child's Certificate of Citizenship http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/proof.asp

You can sponsor your wife while living in the US but you need to prove to CIC that you are returning to Canada. If they believe you are going to remain living in the US, the app will not be approved.

Paying taxes in Canada has nothing to do with it.

I believe the misunderstanding surrounds the fact that Canadian Citizenship only survives ONE generation outside of Canada. So what is going to happen in your family's case is, if and when your about-to-be-newborn child (born in the U.S. once grown-up) has a child of his/her own, IF that child (your grandchild is NOT born in Canada), the automatic succession of Citizenship does NOT carry on and your grandchild will NOT be a Canadian Citizen. Not automatically anyway.

Thanks! I will let my child deal with her child. At least I want my children are all OK with their proud Canadian citizenships.

Yes, you will require proof of your Canadian citizenship to apply for your child's citizenship.

For returning to Canada, there are many things to use. Job offers, evidence you are searching for a job in Canada, university/college acceptance, house rental/purchase, letters from friends and family etc. If you're not actually planning on returning to Canada, then I would advise you don't apply.
