Hello, my name is Dhruv Patel, and I am a 25-year-old ambitious digital media designer residing in Mumbai with my parents.
My academic and professional background is as follows:
I finished my secondary at St.Francis high school in 2013 and higher secondary from St.Rocks college of science and commerce in the science stream in 2015. I underwent two major surgeries in May and June 2015 due to a genetic disorder that I have, and it took me months to recover, so I had to put my studies on hold. I got time to reflect on my career while recovering from surgery. Because I've always been fascinated by media and web design, I decided to pursue a career as a competitive digital media developer. In June of 2016, I underwent another surgery. My doctor advised me to avoid long-distance travel till I am fully recovered. Due to this, I enrolled at a nearby institution called Arena Animation in January 2017 for a certification course in graphic design, video production, and 3D animation. As my arena animation training progressed, I learned how to use various design tools and have learned multiple 3D software. I entered a competition called creative minds, for which I made a short 3D animated clip from scratch. Following the completion of my training in February 2020, India was placed on lockdown on March 23rd due to a global pandemic. After relaxed government restrictions, I began working as a graphic designer for our family's digital design and printing business.
Why is Canada the best option for me?
I decided to study in Canada rather than India because while I was looking for programs for media development and web design in India, I realized that the course of the program had not been revised in a few years, making it difficult for me to stay relevant to the current industry after completing the program. In addition, Canada is one of the most prominent media hubs. There are approximately 87 media production studios in the country; therefore, studying in Canada is the best option for me because it will expose me to the latest technology used in a rapidly evolving field, giving me an advantage in India.
Why this course and college?
As I have completed certification classes in 3D modeling, graphic design, and 3D animation, having merely technical skills is insufficient to develop a successful profession. To properly execute the media project, it is necessary to understand how to establish and develop technical strategies. That is why I selected the interactive design program. It improves my technical knowledge, helps me cover gaps in my knowledge base, and eliminates all shortcomings and inabilities that impede my ability to pursue a successful profession. Another important reason to choose interactive media design is that most media development studios favor candidates who are conversant with the latest technology and tools. There are numerous vacancies at large corporations in my home country for which I am ineligible to apply due to a lack of professional qualifications in interactive media.
Seneca's size and diversity allow students to benefit from connections with industry leaders and cutting-edge computing technologies. Seneca College is one of the leading and sophisticated colleges in the media and art business; therefore, I opted to pursue my diploma in interactive media design there. Furthermore, Seneca College's interaction with Experienced Industry Professionals such as Slavica Ceperkovic, who has over 20 years of experience leading complex projects and teams in the cultural sector and is also a Ph.D. candidate at York University, made my decision to attend Seneca College much easier.
Scope in the field?
Given India's substantial expansion in the visual effects, animation, and media industries, the Indian visual effects, animation, and media industry is expected to take up to 25% of the global market share. Due to this, the Indian government stated in its annual budget, which was released on February 1st, 2022, that it would promote and boost the visual effects, animation, and media industries. In addition, on average, 3.14 billion individuals spend 2.14 hours every day on social media consuming data, implying that content development will increase tremendously in the next years.
PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVES?
In my professional career, I intend to climb to the position of media supervisor. Typically, it takes 10 to 15 years of solely technical abilities to become a media supervisor. With the help of this program, I will be able to shorten my struggle, which is critical in my case because I have lost several years owing to recovery from surgeries. After completing the program, I plan to begin my career as a compositing artist at Prime Focus Studios in India, which pays around Rs. 6 lakhs on average for a compositing artist who can also build technical methods to execute the project. After several years of hard work as a compositing artist, I hope to advance to the position of the senior artist with the goal of becoming a media supervisor, with an average pay of 10 lakhs depending on the projects worked on.
After several years of working as a media supervisor in the Indian media industry and gaining experience, I intend to grow my family's digital design and printing business into other domains.
