Hi All,

SOP is pretty important and your only point of communication(one way) with the VO.. Agreed!!
But, is it really needed the first time u apply? (SPP)

I mean.. sometimes, giving someone extra explanations for something raises a sense of alarm.. somethin goin fish
May be its just me.. But isnt it better to explain when asked to do so? In general sense, if we start explaining ourselves much before someone expresses the need for it, it raises an amount of suspicion.. Does it not?
--------------------
Your can see my profile here:

I am going for a "Marketing - Research and Analytics" based course, PG - Certificate (1 year)
It compliments my current experience as well as education.

There is just one tricky element I am worried about:

In my college, it was necessary for the total of every year marks to be 50% at least, apart from passing in all the subjects.
In the final year (2 sems), I passed all subjects, but my total was 12 marks short of 50%, so I cudnt get thru that year.. :(
(was not keeping well for a long time but still went for exams.. n scored low.. :()

I was given a choice to pick any number of subjects, from the last 6 semesters, and appear for re-exams to push up my score and make up those 12 marks..
I chose just one subject, gave the exam again, and scored.. So I cleared..

Just bcoz of that, my graduation was completed in 4, and not 3 year..
-----------------
Now, should I wait for the VO to assess my application, and see if he has a problem with anything..?
If not, then all good.. no need to explain nethng..

But, God forbid, if nethng goes wrong, then provide a SOP with explanations to the reasons given by VO??
Does it make any sense ?

Senior member, please share your experience and opinions.
Much thanks.

The VO is not going to ask for your SOP separately. They only contact you in case of education documents, medicals or passport. I would recommend you to submit your SOP when you apply for visa the first time.

Hi.. thanks for ur reply..

I meant submitting the SOP in the next application, in case first one is rejected.
I know VO never asks for SOP separately, but when they reject.. will it be better to give an SOP then, explaining the reasons, for wich it was rejected..

That was my query..
Thanks for ur suggestions.. I appreciate it..

:)

Better to submit the very first time..well no body did advised me such thing but i chose to give my sop and i got visa today

thanks simran..

u should add SOP the first time only if u dont mention everything that u just wrote above or atleast spin above explanation in ur favor.....failing due to health reasons seem bad as first ur failed thats bad and on top u were sick long time that would raise a question of long term sickness ..like do u pose a risk to canadians or u could be a burden on the canadian health system. if u want to explain mention positive points like standard of ur university is high and everyone needs to be at 50% etc.
SOP is a good idea the very first time as once u get a rejection it stays on ur record . Its not a good idea to collect rejections.

Ohk.. Will keep that in mind..
Thanks mead..

Health is not an issue as I got my medical done, everything is fine.. top to bottom..
The health issue was due to bad eating habits.. neways.. not important.. i get ur point..

I was not sure if they record your rejections..
Thanks again..

One more thind mead..

I agree with watever u mentioned..
But then, wat do u suggest ?

Shud I explain the point of the backlog (in a positive manner) ?
Or totally skip it ?

i feel u skip it in ur SOP unless u know how to make them positive...they will see backlog in ur marksheets so if u have anything positive add those to ur SOP to improve ur odds.

I hear you mead.. Good thinkin..

One more thing.. Wat can b positive things about repeating a year?

U gave a very logical point - hi university standards..
Dats surely going in my sop..

Apart frm that?
Wat else can i mention to turn it in my favor?

Coz like u rightly mentioned.. I will only touch this topic if i have a few positives to support it..
Much thanks in advance..

Before ur comment, i was thinking that the health reason wud go positive for me keepin in mind that this guy was not well but still cleared all papers.. Just scored low.. So had to repeat due to hi standards of univ..

But after u explained it i agree with u.. Though being down with severe cold n hi fever for about 8-9 days (the duration of my exams) was not seeming like a big deal before i read ur opinion..

This is the only point in my whole application that i feel less confident about.. Dats why troubling u with so much detail.. :(

Thanks..

SOP is not in the checklist now be it SPP or General. You can't be denied visa basis you didn't attach a SOP. There are people who have secured visa even without a SOP. However, it's a good idea to attach a SOP as it describes your background, home ties and about your selection of the course and country. It helps you establish a co-relation between what you have done and what you propose to do. For example, in your case, you can describe reason for securing less marks etc.
