hi there
my fathers friend was canadian and he wanted to apply for his wife.. but the problem was that he had a job offer in saudi arabia so he went there and he took his wife with him... and everyday she lived with him in saudi .. was counted. what that means is?? she wasnt canadian she lived in saudi with him and the canadian immigration counted for her everyday she lived in saudi as if she was living in canada and after 3 years she took the citizenship??
is this true or what??

No. But she needs to live 2 out of 5 years in Canada to keep her PR.

Kind of. If a PR is living abroad with a Canadian citizen spouse, that time counts towards the PR residency requirement, which is 2 out of 5 years lived in Canada. However, it does not count towards the time you need to spend in Canada to apply for citizenship, which is 3 out of 4 years lived in Canada.

It would count towards citizenship (providing she was a PR already) if he was working in some form for Canada...

It seems as though that that time is NOT supposed to count towards citizenship. BUT I find the OP's story completely believable - 100%. (I wonder if Saudi stamps passports on entry and upon exit . . . hmmmm)

If you are a citizen, then the days your husband spends outside of Canada with you count towards retaining his PR status.

The best thing to do would be to stay in Canada for 3 years and apply for citizenship. Once citizenship is granted, no more worries of retaining any kind of status. This, at least to me, seems the best course of action. Of course not all situations are the same.

Again, think: If you're a Canadian citizenship and you move abroad with your spouse who is a PR, all his/her days will count as being in-land. But again, you need to be a Canadian citizen. A PR status won't do it....
