hi there
my fathers friend was canadian and he wanted to apply for his wife.. but the problem was that he had a job offer in saudi arabia so he went there and he took his wife with him... and everyday she lived with him in saudi .. was counted. what that means is?? she wasnt canadian she lived in saudi with him and the canadian immigration counted for her everyday she lived in saudi as if she was living in canada and after 3 years she took the citizenship??
is this true or what??

She already became a landed immigrant before they went to saudi??

thats true but what im asking about is do they actually count for her the days that she lived in saudi as being lived in canada?

No. But she needs to live 2 out of 5 years in Canada to keep her PR.

Kind of. If a PR is living abroad with a Canadian citizen spouse, that time counts towards the PR residency requirement, which is 2 out of 5 years lived in Canada. However, it does not count towards the time you need to spend in Canada to apply for citizenship, which is 3 out of 4 years lived in Canada.

Here's the source:
OPTION 1. Accompanying a Canadian citizen outside Canada

You may count each day that you accompanied a Canadian citizen outside Canada provided that the person you accompanied is your

  • spouse or common-law partner or
  • parent, if you are less than 22 years of age

Evidence that you are accompanying a Canadian citizen
You must provide supporting documents to prove that:
  • The person you are accompanying is a Canadian citizen; and
  • You are the spouse, common-law partner or child of that person.

It would count towards citizenship (providing she was a PR already) if he was working in some form for Canada...

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/cp/cp05-eng.pdf

The Citizenship Act was amended in 1988 to allow the spouse of a Canadian citizen residing
outside Canada with that person to count certain specific periods as residence in Canada.
"Spouse" refers to a married person.
Section 5(1.1) applies only where the Canadian citizen spouse is working with the public service
of Canada or a province or for the Canadian armed forces.
Any day of residence outside Canada, before lawful admission to Canada, is equivalent to onehalf
day of residence in Canada.
Any day of residence outside Canada, after lawful admission to Canada, is equivalent to one day
of residence in Canada.
Any residence outside Canada before the marriage that is within the four year period before the
date of application cannot be counted towards the residence requirement.

It seems as though that that time is NOT supposed to count towards citizenship. BUT I find the OP's story completely believable - 100%. (I wonder if Saudi stamps passports on entry and upon exit . . . hmmmm)

wow thank you for the quote and the link it helped alot.... i have a question though, if i sponsored my husband andhe got the PR and then i got an offer abroad, can they still count the days he is living with me abroad or does he have to live in canada until he finishes the period required and then come with me abroad?

If you are a citizen, then the days your husband spends outside of Canada with you count towards retaining his PR status.

The best thing to do would be to stay in Canada for 3 years and apply for citizenship. Once citizenship is granted, no more worries of retaining any kind of status. This, at least to me, seems the best course of action. Of course not all situations are the same.

Again, think: If you're a Canadian citizenship and you move abroad with your spouse who is a PR, all his/her days will count as being in-land. But again, you need to be a Canadian citizen. A PR status won't do it....

yes, i am a canadian citizen but im trying to apply for my husband.. i dont know if they will count the days that he was with me in saudi because im currently not working
