Hi everyone,
I'm an applicant from Malaysia. I applied for my PR in 2007 and until today I'm still waiting for them to send me the documents required. Anyhoo, I wanted to find out a couple of things and I was hoping you guys can help provide me some answers.
Abit about myself though, just so that you get a fairly clear picture of who I am. I'm 27 years old and I did my undergraduate degree in Canada. Following my graduation, I decided to return home to work and spend some time with my family. I got an IT job in a MNC corporation and after 2 years, I decided to jump into a management consulting role. I do have a number of relatives in Canada (that's why I chose to study there!). I am still single and I plan to immigrate on my own (no dependencies).
Well these are the questions I would like to know:
a) Is an interview required for every PR applicant? Why is an interview required in the first place? What are they looking to know?
b) What is the time frame between submitting the documents till waiting for the interview? Lets say if I submit my documents in June, when can I roughly expect the interview to be?
c) What does finalization mean? I noticed that in the CIC website, a table is given for the time it takes to finalize an application. Does finalize means I immediately can get my PR? Lets say if my VISA is finalized in November 2010. Can I immediately go to Canada in Dec 2010 or is there a waiting period as well?
d) Proof of funds - I have checked the website and it says that a minimum of 11K is required as proof of funds but it doesn't quite specify how this proof of funds must be shown. Most of my funds are tied in stocks and govt. bonds (interest rates from the banks are just too low). I do have some money in my bank, but it does not meet the min. value. However when I combine with my stocks and bonds, I have sufficient funds to exceed the minimum value. Most of my stocks and bonds are easily liquidable (i.e they are not long term assets and can be sold on the spot). Will it be alright if I show my portfolio as proof? Of course I plan to get a letter from my stock brokerage firm and from govt. officials explicitly stating that these funds can be removed at any time. I just don't want to unnecessarily take them out and lose on my interest/gains)
e) Will they reject applicants who fall short of showing the minimum funds required? i.e - will they look at the overall assessment of the candidate (background, education, age, experience, adaptability etc.) in case funds are insufficient?
Phew! okay that's alot of questions, hope to receive some helpful feedback on this!
Thanks again for taking the time to read my post.
