All,
I have written some other posts in the Spousal Immigration forum, but my boyfriend (2 years) and I are looking at me doing a college program as an option. I think that the Canadian experience would be beneficial in future endeavors in Canada, considering I don't plan on leaving once I'm settled!
Well, I am American with a BA from an American university (December 2012), and now I'm looking at my options to settle in Ontario permenantly with my boyfriend. I am looking at both two-year programs and graduate certificates, seeing as I already have a Bachelors. I am a little worried I won't get accepted anywhere, as I have a C+ (2.5) average at univerisyt... Not great. I also have vision problems and epilepsy, even if that doesn't affect me very much (the epilepsy). I have assistive technology to help with the vision problem now (table-top magnifier). My final 3 semesters are better than they were when I started out.
I really don't even know where to start with the process... I know (think?) I should apply with Ontario Colleges to the programs I'm looking at.
- Fall 2014 intake (hopefully?)
1. If I get accepted to an Ontario college, how do I go about getting the study permit? What medical exams do I have to do? Do I need to do the English or French proficiency exams? I am a native English speaker and fluent in French as s second language, though I don't have official test results.
2. My boyfriend and I noticed that I'd need 10,000 CAD along with tuition paid (or partially). He has the funds (thankfully). Would that be sufficient? Could we open a bank account for me and deposit the money in there? I hope to have SOME money saved up, but I don't think I will have 10,000 CAD saved by the time I'm getting a study permit....
3. Is it more advisable to get a Post-Graduate Certificate/Diploma or a 2 year college diploma?
The first step is applying to the college programs... It seems so overwhelming!
