Hi everybody, me and my family (husband and 2 kids) are going to do soft landing in June. We will stay in Canada only for 2 weeks to activate PR status, take SIN and open the bank account. We will move to Canada permanently in June 2020. In a meantime, a friend will collect our PR cards in Canada and bring it to us in our homeland.
My questions are:
1) Is it legal to activate PR status and stay outside Canada for a year, or I must spend 6 months outside Canada and 6 months inside? I suppose it doesnt matter because at CIC website it is noted: "To keep your permanent resident status, you must have been in Canada for at least 730 days during the last five years. These 730 days don’t need to be continuous. Some of your time abroad may count towards the 730 days."
2) What should we do regarding tax return in April 2020? At that time we will be Canadian residents officially but basically outside Canada. Should we fill up forms for tax return anyway, with a notion that we have some income in our homeland?
3) Is it really perfectly legal to do soft landing and come back to Canada after a year? I will give my friend's address as our residential address because when PR cards arrive I will already be outside Canada. Is there a possibility that someone call me or my family's member to collect personally PR cards or to check if we left Canada? What should we do if they call us and we are not in Canada? Could my friend have any problem because his address is used for collecting our PR cards (and we are not there at that moment)?
I know there are similar questions on this forum, but I need to be sure that doing soft landing is still completely legal. Thanks a lot for help!
