Hello all. I am a permanat resident of canada but recently got employed by US based campany as an independent contractor. The employer today asked my social insurence number, My question is: is it allowed to give one's social number to non-canadian employer? note that I ma working for this employer form my home in Canada. My job is good and I am getting my payments on time.

I think they meant Social Security Number. You'd better confirm it.

Hi Kabana
Is it a US based Company but you are employed here in Canada by their Canadian subsidiary?
You cannot work out-of USA to be on US Payroll

If you are employed by them in Canada then SIN is definitely required by them.
SSN is required only for employment in USA, I think
