Hi there,

So I have read a couple of threads that supposedly everyone was going to be switched in April 2011, but I guess, like always, the governement of Canada is slow and it will only take effect in 5 years??

They are switching now, actively so in the American consulates. It takes time. It's a BIG task. I didn't hear that it would only take effect in 5 years but I can image that CAIPS and FOSS will still be in use for quite some time on open files because you have to understand that many categories take 5 years or more to finish. Once GCMS has been fully implemented, I'd imagine that new files will only use GCMS and those that were active at the time of implementation would use both. It's too much information just to transfer to a new system but eventually CAIPS and FOSS will be phased out and only used for obtaining information on files that are closed.
