Singapore - Vancouver(Canada) for spouse + adopted child

Hi There,

I am a Canadian Citizen and I am living in Singapore with my Singaporean wife.

We are also in the process of adopting a Singaporean baby.(Singapore adoption, not a foreign adoption eg. from Malaysia).

I own a home in Vancouver and all my family are still there.

Though we intend to stay in Singapore for the next year or so, I would like the option to move quickly if Singapore is not the place for me to raise my family.

Questions 1. I was told by the Consul here that once we are ready to move, we can apply and immediately have access to Canada. This was like 7 months ago when I wasn't really serious then. However, I'm hearing conflicting report that it takes up to 2years for my wife's papers to get processed. I've read other posts and seems like timing of application is different. Can anyone shed some light into how long it takes?

Question 2. Once we are granted the immigration papers for my wife, how long do I have to move my family over. If applications take that long, why not get it done early and wait on it. Does anyone know how long the application is good for?

The current average processing time for applications in Singapore is 26 months:

Once your spouse get the PR visa, s/he can land first and then return to Singapore. After a while, if you feel the time is suitable, you can move the whole family to Vancouver if you like.

I am canadian who would like to adapt child from abroad ( vietnam) , I already called CIC and asked them to send a application package . But its did not help at all !

I knows that will take up to 2 years to bring a child to canada that's why i would like to begin as soon as possible

2. You have to contact the Province first.
