We are considering applying for outland spousal sponsorship through Quebec and are wondering if I should also submit an application under the Quebec skilled worker class when the system opens again in October 2015. This year, my occupation falls under the Quebec priority category and I have highly relevant two years of US work experience in that occupation post-graduation. My IELTS band is 8.5 so I fully qualify for CSQ in the economic class.

What would be the fastest way of going about this? Should we apply in family class or economic class or both? What are the processing times like?

One clear benefit I see of going with family class is that I would be free to take jobs anywhere in Canada, but not when applying through the Quebec economic stream. But processing speed is more important to us (like everyone else) than the flexibility of working in other provinces.

I would appreciate any advise on the matter. Thanks.

Do you speak French? For Quebec, having a Delf score of B1 or B2 is required to apply as a skilled worker. I don't think you can apply both ways. On the other hand, you don't have to stay in Quebec if you apply as a skilled worker. You actually can move to another province, you will have to get a CSQ in both cases.

I would apply for a family class visa. You never know how long it might take for the skilled worker to be processed. It will depend on your visa office ;)

Hi Luna,

Thanks for your response. Knowledge of French could be an extremely valuable asset for applying to Quebec, but it is not mandatory. I have sufficient points with my education, work experience and IELTS scores to apply for QSW.

Oh, that's awesome... You made the evaluation online I guess.... Check then the processing times for both cases and see which one is the fastest. I applied as a skilled worker back in 2011 and it was not easy to gather all the documentation required... I think that sponsorship actually is a little bit easier and faster!
