My husband and I are putting together our photos and labeling them (we are filing next week) and I'm running into an awkward problem.

I go by my middle name and my husband has always called me by my middle name, but for the purposes of the application, we used my first name for clarity. While he was helping me label the photos, he wrote my middle name on everything! It's easily changed because we're doing it in a digital document.

Should we mention that he calls me something other than my first name now in the application somewhere or should we wait until he gets to the interview stage and and he would alert the visa officer that he might call me by my middle name instead?

Thanks. I feel a little silly asking.

We used my actual name in the application, I don't know if its relevant if you specify that your husband calls you differently...My parents in law cals me differently since in french is a bit different than in romanian, but I never specifyed that in my application forms...

I mentioned that we use different names (short name for me, English version of my wife's Chinese name for her). I think you should mention it.

Mention it somewhere. I had the same problem with my husband's name. When making the labels for the photos, I used my first name and his nickname, since no one calls him his 'real' first name. However, at the top of the first page of the photos, I wrote a short explanation of this.

Thank you, everyone! I go by both names, so I will mention this somewhere.

yes...we did this as well because I like my formal name and my family and friends call me by a shorter version.....my husband uses my formal name most times but every now and then he shortens it as well......

I had to mention my nickname and my husband's nickname as well. His was very self explanatory (Anthony to Tony, simple) whereas mine was a little more confusing as to why my full first name went to a somewhat random nickname. Seemed like it worked haha.

yep parker24 that is like me...Kathleen to Kathy to sometimes Kate......all depends everyone seems to have there own idea of what my name should be...LOL....I prefer Kathleen but apparently my family and friends prefer the shorter version....and oh yeah....there is always "Kath" when they get extremely lazy!!!! :P

I'm in a similar boat, my legal first name is Angela but I prefer Angie ( my family calls me that or Ang) and my fiance calls me Ann ( especially to avoid confusion as my future mother-in-law's name is also Angela). :P :o. I really don't want to confuse the VO but I want my family to use the name that they are familar with for ease of writing the documents. I believe that somewhere on the paperwork 'other names you are known by' Could I list it there? Even though I don't use it on legal documents?

You can list all your nicknames in the 'other names you are known by' section.
