okay..about back ground checks:
I sent off my FBI back ground check ( along with everything else - except the CSQ -for Quebec ) at the beginning of this process. ( Back in January of 2013) I had gotten fingerprinted and everything, you know..like all of us.
It had come back fine. I have no criminal record. (I've been through the whole fingerprinting drill before in the States, as a teacher..so nothing unfamiliar.)
Okay..Fast forward to August 2013, we got a letter saying they don't need an interview. They asked for the copy of my passport ( USA - so exempt from sending original) and the CSQ.
By November 2013, they had everything, including CSQ. We were pretty excited because everyone, including the person I spoke with at the Immigration office, said the asking for the passport copies meant I was weeks away from getting my landing papers.
Time passed. Fast forward to Mid-January 2014. No news. We were disappointed. We contacted a Member of Parliament in our area and asked if they could check for us, just to see what could be holding things up.
The answer: They are running the FBI check and there seems to be a backlog at the FBI. So, I asked " what do you mean? We ALREADY did the FBI clearance at the beginning." Then we were informed that it was a second FBI check..then the CSIS would conduct it's own check. This was in addition to the first FBI Clearance they did and we were told it was done for everyone and nothing unusual at all. We were told the process for the second check usually takes about 6 months. ( for both FBI and the CSIS )
Anyway, that was the first we'd heard of any second back ground checks. Besides that..why does it take 6 months?
I have a simple case. I've never lived outside the USA. No one close to me is in the military. I have no criminal record.
People here have suggested maybe they think I'm a hacker or something
( huh? ) and or maybe someone who actually has a record has a name that's similar to mine. If that's so, why did the first back ground check turn out fine and why would immigration send me a letter stating they don't need an interview? Wouldn't they want to interview a person who had a problem on the FBI clearance?
The MP told us it was a normal procedure done to every application - the 2 FBI checks. Why would he lie to us about that? Why would immigration lie to him about that? What would be the point?
But then, no one seems to have heard of it at all. I can't even get a response from my attorney about this one simple question.
Why?
Anybody?
