Hi Everyone!

Newbie here...

I'm having a tough time finding information from people who have done family sponsorship for siblings. I'm applying from Nairobi Office and my sibling who is a citizen is sponsoring me.

Though I'm an adult I am still eligible based on their criteria because I'm considered a "lonely sibling" as per their conditions. According to the website the wait time is 2 years but was hoping to hear some stories about timelines, wait times, notifications etc for each stage, e.g:

-Receipt of Application
-Approval of application (when do they tell you if your application is approved for processing?)
-Processing time once approved

Sorry if I'm using wrong terms above but I hope I'm clear. I just want to be prepared for what to expect so as to manage my expectations for the whole process.

**On a side note, wondering if it would affect my application if I enrolled in school with a study permit in the meantime? I was planning to do this anyway but don't want to jeopardize anything.

Just to confirm, your sibling in Canada must meet all these conditions:
- has no spouse, and no children
- has no family anywhere in the world who are Canadian PR or Citizens
- both your parents are deceased

The applicant being sponsored (you) can be married with kids, that is fine. It's the sponsor that must meet the conditions.

You are certainly able to apply for study permit to Canada in the meantime, and can come to school in Canada if it's approved while the app is processing. It will not jeopardize the PR app.
