LANDED..........
April 2014 (IA)
Dear All,

I need your opinion...

What is the benefit of landing and coming back before finally landing for good? I am a bit confused to decide if it is worth-spending that much amount (air ticket, hotel etc) when I have already made up my mind to settle in Canada?

What could be the potential reasons for me to decide otherwise after my first landing?

What is your opinion?

Regards,

The reason why people do this is because they aren't ready to move to Canada permanently before their PR visa expires. When the PR visa is issued to you, it will have an expiry date. You and your family must land in Canada before this expiry date to become permanent residents of Canada. If you do not land in Canada before the expiry date, then your visas become invalid and you will have to start the process all over again from the beginning (the PR visa cannot be extended).

Some people aren't ready to move to Canada before the expiry of their PR visa due to work, school or family obligations. This is why they come to Canada temporarily first (to land before their PR visa expires) and then return later to live in Canada permanently.

I landed did the necessary like applying SIN etc etc and went back to Dubai. After a year I came back permanently.
My opinion is if you are well set and have no second thoughts then come in permanently.
You could start the struggle earlier :o and settle down earlier. ;D

Well, I was thinking to land and come back without resigning from my current job. Why? because I thought that I could find something "bad enough" during my short stay in Canada, which could force me to change my mind to settle there. But I am not sure what that "bad enough" could be.

I am very much aware about the jobs situation there and I am mentally prepared for initial struggle. I also do not have major financial/family obligations. I do have enough time till my PR visa expires in May 2014...

what you'll need the most when you move permanently is "cash"..... living expenses are very high in canada...your hard earned money will be flying out of your pocket really fast, you'll also have no idea when you'll land in a job in your professional field...it could be months...it could be a year, or more...nobody knows.

So i'd say if you have enough funds to support you for a long time without being employed, then you're ready for the move...if your
savings will only last for a few months...then better to do the landing formalities first and then move at a later stage.

Its also important to start aligning yourself with the job market requirements - in your field, i.e. if you're an engineer you could start your licensing process, you can also do evaluation for your foreign credentials...the better prepared in advance the less surprises you'll have.
