should rental agreement be translated professionally?

quick question, would like someone's opinion please

my husband and I have an apartment and the lease is in both our names. I would like to use it as supporting proof of our relationship. the document is in spanish and needs to be translated.

do you think I can do it myself or should I take it to a professional translator?

I would translate it yourself. Only required documents such as the police certificate need to be professionally translated. Besides, it would be very expensive to have it translated professionally.

I would have it translated and notorized, you are submitting it as proof how will the Embassy know if it is real? It says right in the instructions.

•Send originals of the immigration forms (items 1 - 5) and original police certificates.
•Send notarized photocopies of all other documents, unless instructed otherwise. Retyped copies are not acceptable.
•If your documents are not in English or French, send a notarized translation with a copy of the originals. These must be done by an official translator. You cannot translate your own documents.

They're talking about required documents, i.e., marriage certificate, police record etc--anything that is included in the Document Checklist. A rental agreement is something that she is choosing to include as additional proof. It does not need to be professionally translated. Many people for instance translate their own emails and this is perfectly acceptable.
