Hi,

My AOR date is Dec 5, 2018. I am an Indian citizen and residing in India. I still have not received PPR and my file is at New Delhi Visa Office.

My spouse and my passport will expire in July 2020. My query is when do I apply for renewal of passport?

1. Should I renew my passport right away? If yes, then when do we inform IRCC (after applying for a new passport or when we receive the new passport - please note that it takes around a month's time to get the passport renewed?

2. Should I renew my passport after I get COPR, and then inform IRCC that I am applying for a new passport?

3. Should I apply for a new passport after I get COPR, does that cause any issues or does the time period increase significantly?

4. If I inform IRCC through webform that I have applied for a new passport, would that cause a delay in processing of my application?

5. Once we get PPR, do I submit both old and new passports or only the new passport?

@legalfalcon @cansha

Any help on this is much appreciated.

It is not this complicated. Just apply for new passport and if PPR comes just send the new passport to IRCC. If you want you can upload new passport copy using a webform but it doesn't matter. I had renewed passport of my spouse and sent that after PPR. They issued COPR on new passport without any hassles.

July 2020 is far off.

However, you should get the PP renewed as early as possible. The PR visa cannot be issued beyond the duration of the passport. But you passport expiry is a year away.

Either way, @cansha has answered more details and I agree with him.

Hi @legalfalcon my AOR is in April and I’m in IP1 right now! My passport expires in Jan 2020. I reside in Australia and have an Indian passport! To renew my passport it would take 2 months! My medicals expire in November 2019. So do I renew my passport or can I submit my passport for CoPR even if it has less than 6 months validity when I get my PPR, considering my medicals would anyways expire before my passport does? I’ve been asking around for an answer but thought I’ll check with you as well! Please help!
