Hello everyone!
I did not meet the residency obligations as I had to go to India. I overstayed but I have valid reasons. My Canadian citizen son got very ill over there. My PR card is about to expire. I have US visitors visa too. Now I am ready to come back to Canada. My question is should I fly to US and then cross the border by car or should I fly straight to Canada? Please help me deciding which route has lesser risk? Thanks a lot.

Neither route is guaranteed it depends on who you meet at the border. However anecdotal evidence on the forum and case law shows land border crossings are more relaxed than airport arrivals. The introduction of automated gates at airports has redressed the balance to a more equitable ratio.

Say your prayers to whomever you believe on the day to pass through without being reported. If reported sure the illness you mention can be a H&c reasons but its not a free pass and the courts will make sure its not an afterthought...what is your shortfall in days? Best wishes for the full recovery of your son.

Thank you so much Msafiri for the reply. I have stayed in Canada 5 months in last 2 years and a total of 8 months in last 5 years. My other question is If I come by land on US border, should I show my passport too or just the PR card? Thanks.
