Hello,

I'm Landing in Toronto in 1 week. I'll be staying there till I get my PR card, and then I'm going back to my home country for few months. I'll immigrate to Toronto for good next year in May.

My question is, should I apply for OHIP now? I heard it takes 3 months to get the card, however, I don't think I'll be staying that long in Ontario.

Thanks

there is a waiting period of 3 months, As per the rule you can apply after 3 months from landing date however sometimes they do accept it earlier as well....

No, because you will not be eligible for OHIP. To qualify, you must reside in Ontario for 153 days out of the 183 days immediately after your application. Since you are leaving Ontario for about 8 months, you will not be eligible for OHIP until you return and make Ontario your place of residence.

Don't apply until you return to Canada next May.
