Sharing visa application number

I applied for a visitor visa to attend conference. i received email from the conference manager after 2 months of receiving the invitation;

In case you have not received your visa to Canada yet, could you please share your application number so that I can followup with the government?

How can they follow up? You would need to have approved them as your representative in your TRV application. An application number doesn’t give them any right to access your file. So I would ask them that.

"(If you don’t have your visa yet it would be good if you shared your visa application number so that the government knows that this application has to be processed in a timely manner.
They can only flag an application if I give them the application number.)"

Is there any possibility of harmful effects on the application that they may do, if I share it with them?

So raise a webform. Not sure what the conference organizers can do since they are not your representative. Giving them your number doesn’t expedite anything so share if you want. Where are you from and what is the conference? Assume you are a speaker if organizers want to follow up on your behalf.
