Hi All,

Firstly thank you all for your efforts on this forum. I've been a reader of many of the threads here and its been invaluable whilst trying to sort out my own transition to Canada. So in short, my wife is Canadian (living in BC) and I am British (living in London). We married in May of 2015 and applied for spousal sponsorship (me moving to BC) shortly after. The spousal sponsorship has now been granted and i have my COPR. We have been fortunate that we have been able to fly and see each other fairly frequently, unfortunately we didn't know that my COPR was going to be granted and i already have a holiday booked to see my wife at the end of July 2016. Copr was granted at the end of June 2016. So my questions are as follows:

1 - Upon arrival in July must i tell border control that i have COPR? if yes, then i presume this will trigger the landing interview?
2 - The landing interview should be straight forward so no questions here, however as i was only planing my trip in July to be a short holiday i will be returning to the UK for about 2 months whilst i finalise some things at work + pack up my goods to ship. So my goods to accompany me are quite limited (just my suitcase + hand luggage), but my goods to follow will be everything from my house which will consist of clothes, kitchen items + some electrical items (PC, TV etc). I've done a bit of reading which suggests that i can over estimate my goods to follow, however i can't subsequently add items to my list - is this correct?
3 - As i will only be in BC for 8 days upon landing, will this subsequently mean I lose my settler tax/duty exemptions? or given my nationality and visa exempt travel status is this a non-issue?

The benefit of declaring/landing in July means i can apply for work (with an SN) whilst i'm working my notice period in London.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
David.

1. Yes, if you wish to "land" at that time, tell the primary officer and they will refer you to Immigration.
2. Yes, over estimate CBSA is not too picky. Electronic or other expensive items with serial nos. should be listed with those. Otherwise, 10 boxes of used clothing $x value. CBSA may or not ask for the Goods to follow list, may tell you to bring it when you move for good. You just can't tell which way they are going to go.
3. No, you don't lose your tax exemption and there is no time limit as to when GTF must be imported.
4. Note that some of your electronics or items with motors may not work in Canada, as power is 110V and 60HZ rather than 240V and 50Hz, computer will probably have 110/240 but I doubt your TV will work.
