Hello Everyone,

I'm quite new to the forum, hope I'm not breaking any rules. I want to share my experience and things I wish I knew when I was a Permanent Resident. I came over when I was 5, and we were lucky enough to meet some very kind strangers on the plane. They provided us shelter for a few months so we can get settled, but every night I would watch my mom cry while I laid on her lap. My dad would console my mom, don't worry, we'll make it, we've survived worse. It was extremely tough and part of the reason why I started working in this field.

So here's what I wish I knew:
There are free settlement resources available in your city. It'll take a couple of visits, and a couple of tries, but there are non-profit organizations that offer their services for free for newcomers. They'll answer any question, help with any form and help navigate the hardships of settlement.

Use BC211. It's everything you will need at your finger tips. Enter your location, select settlement services, and locate the nearest service to you.

If you are in the Lower Mainland, connect with me over PM.

Might want to specify that the web site you've mentioned is only relevant if you live in BC.

Hey Scylla,

Thank you for the correction. I'll be more specific:

Please visit www.211.ca to select your specific region and find out about the resources in your local community.

Settlement resources that I would suggest in the Lower Mainland:
-RMCS
-CHIMO
-ISS
-MOSAIC
