My family and I would like to immigrate to Canada. Due to our age (over 40), we consider that the best pathway is to study there. So, the plan is that my husband will apply to a 2-years College program, if accepted and receive a study visa and that I'll get an open work permit. Then, get a Post-Graduate Work Permit for 3 years and hopefully before that to apply for PR.

But then we wondered, can my husband buy or set up a business over there? Some say it is possible to do so as a foreigner, if so, considering that I'll get an open work permit, can I work the business? He'll keep studying while I work the business and then we'll apply to the PR. Please advise! Thanks in advance!

I would recommend you work with a lawyer in Canada who has expertise in this area. Generally speaking, in order to own a business in Canada as a foreigner you must have a partner who is Canadian. A business lawyer will be in the best position to take you through what you can and can't do as temporary residents. Good luck with your plans.
