Hello Guys,

We submitted the student Visa application for my sister on August 4, 2020 and till date there has been zero update. Her program started in Sept, 2020 and she is doing online studies. Sadly her University said they will not refund any money even if the visa is refused once the semester is finished.
Till date there has been No AIP, No request for medicals, no request for any additional documents.

Now, I am concerned as its been more than 4 months and it seems like her application did not move ahead at all. Her 2nd semester is starting soon as well.

Last year, she got her visitor visa to Canada renewed so her Biometrics are already summitted.

Her profile:
University: Ontario College of Art & Design University, Toronto ( included in DLI list)
Program: Undergraduate degree in Environmental Design- Interior Design Specialization
Non - SDS visa category

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks in Advance.

Unfortunately the processing times have become a farce. After 2020 ends, the 2021 applications will precede. If the medicals were not updated even after biometrics then the application is most probably is in limbo.

AIP is an indicator that it falls under two stage, she shouldn't had started online without an AIP. As per the trend they are still processing the backlogged 2-stage SDS files and the ones which didn't receive an AIP will not be prioritised at all as it comes under normal processing. It's pretty much a gamble at this moment and the situation is more worse for winter 2021 applicants.

That is depressing. Her course is only available in Sept intake, that is why she started the course online and surprisingly her classmate who applied a week after got the request for Medicals a month ago.

As per the IRCC website,
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...vices/application/check-processing-times.html

the current processing time for Study permit from India is 36 weeks. Does that mean we have to wait for completion of 9 months before we can take any action from our side? This is really scary as her University is not willing to refund money if she complete the semesters but end up not getting visa.

If right now there is scope to defer without losing money then do it. In hindsight it will be a better decision. Even if her visa is approved after she defers, it will still be better than all the stress.

Consider this, she will study next September when everything will be better in Canada and world, more than half of Canada will be vaccinated, she can freely travel and study there, when she finishes her program, economy would have healed

The problem is not regarding the approval/refusal, even the approved ones are unable to meet certain stringent DLI's deadline these days. It could take anywhere between 3 - 9 months.
