Hi all,

I found so much useful info when going through my family class PR application process, so thanks for all being so active on the site - it's so helpful.

Since my PR was approved my SO and I have separated
- it wasn't amicable.

I know that the required 2-year period of living together was dropped in April '17, but does anyone know how this could affect my status in Canada? How much can I really separate our official lives?

Thanks,

ek

Have you landed yet?

If you have landed as a PR, your lives can be nearly completely separated. The only ongoing connection would be that the sponsor remained liable for any welfare you claimed until your third year anniversary of landing.

If you have not yet landed, then separating would mean you are not eligible to land as a family based PR, and you should inform CIC of this.

I am landed, and have been living and working in Canada for the last three years. That's a huge relief, thanks a bunch :)
