Hi all!
I am going to Canada to study, and my common law partner goes with me on an open work permit.
We have already obtained our visas, and we will arrive in Toronto in the end of August.

The problem is that our airline (Finnair) today refused to take our dog on board as they changed the aircraft (they did confirm the dog 3 months ago when we bought the tickets, but now refused!! >:(). So we have to change the tickets for another airline.

To save on that, we would prefer to change only one ticket (for me who will bring the dog), and my partner will use his Finnair ticket. Otherwise we will spend too much money on 2 new tickets - they are now tooooo expensive.

The question is - can we enter Canada separately? We will come on the same day, but by different flights and in different time...
Will the officer on the border let my spouse into the country without me? I was the main applicant, however the letters which the embassy issued to us confirming our permits do not clarify this point... Please help us.

As you are the person with the study permit, Canada Immigration will not issue a SOWP to your spouse on his arrival, because you aren't in Canada.

Thanks PMM for your response!!

What if I arrive some hours earlier than my spouse?
Then I will have my study permit issued by my spouse's arrival... But he still will have to cross the border separately from me.
Will they let him in the country then?
