Seniors pls help: INR to CAD what are the best cost saving methods to convert ?

Hi senior Guys,
I am travelling to Toronto from Bangalore this Sep 4th on Student visa.

I need CAD dollars, pls let me know the best cost saving methods to convert INR to CAD.

There are branches of State bank of India in Canada. Is that opening of a/c there will help me to transfer money at good Foreign exchange rates ?
