We are PR of Canada. We landed there in March this year and strayed there for one month. Currently my wife is pregnant (advanced stage; third trimester) and we would like to move soon permanently in Canada. Reaching there we need to apply for OHIP Card immediately. During OHIP application if I hide the information that we were out of Canada for few months, then what will happen? Can they find out that we are hiding the information? Any experience about that? If they find out later on, then does this cause any effect on your immigration status? I am sorry for asking such like question and this is because of my wife's critical health situation. She need to be paid attention by few specialist (Gynecologist, Endocrinologist & Internal Medicine Specialist) there immediately. To be honest, may be I am not going to do this but thinking about the cost of private consultation with the specialist, it comes in my mind. Any positive advices or alternative suggestions? ....Please help.

Ontario OHIP need 3 months waiting period. Perhaps you can go to other provinces (such as Manitoba, SK and Alberta) which don't have waiting periods.

Steaky - What you have recommended won't work. If they were landing for the first time, then they could pick a different province to be covered by health benefits immeidately. However since they landed in Ontario, if they relocated to another province, they will still be subject to the three month wait.

Why not stay in your own Country until she gives birth?

Also, many Airlines will not carry a women who is as far pregnant as your wife is. Especially if she is having complications, as she will need a full medical approval to even board the plane.

I think it would probably be safer for you to stay where you are, have the baby, then come to Canada. Besides, you will probably be caught out and end up paying a HUGE hospital bill in Canada.

It will not effect your PR status but will effect your credit and credibility in Canada. Not a good way to start a new life in a new Country.

I would suggest to give birth here in Canada, for one reason , if she will give birth in your country, you will still need to process your child another sponsorship. But if the child will be born here in Canada, automatically your child will be a canadian citizen. If your wife is less than 6 months i will really recommend it.

This this post is from November and she was then in her 3rd trimester, they probably have the baby by now. I have missed this thread because I was on holidays in November but I'd like to correct scylla saying that if you land in one province, you can not get 1st day health care in another.

We had a discussion about this on another thread with some people who had also landed, stayed for a short time, left again and then were ready to move to Canada and were considering which province and if they could get 1st day coverage.

Opinions differed and in the end, I phoned AB health and asked them and they said that a PR who landed elsewhere, went home after a short time and then moves again from his country to AB will get the 1st day coverage. That is true for AB, if somebody is considering if this will work in some other province, by all means phone their health care and ask them.

As for the original posters original plan to lie to OHIP and say he was in ON the whole time, I think it would be risky. First they will ask if you landed in March, why didn't you apply for OHIP until November? You would have qualified to apply in June. Your wife is pregnant at the time, did she not go to the doctor at all? They will suspect that he wasn't in the country. Another thing is that if they accept his application and give him OHIP, what would happen if they find out later that he lied. If he shouldnt' have had OHIP but he did and he was granted some services because of that, I think it is possible that they could send him the bill for the services he has received.
