Sending orginal documents to visa office

We have our marriage certificate from italy, we just got in translated and a Chancellor (in italy) stamped the affidavit that the translator attached.

Now can i send all these original papers in or do I have to photo copy them and get them notarized as "true copies"? (I have many print outs of my marriage certificate so I do not mind to send them 1 original) I really don't want to spend the extra money "certifying it as true"

Also the affidavit that the translator has is written in italian, Do i need to translate his affidavit too???

Hi saffi,

If your check list require notarized copy, then you need to send the notarized copy. Otherwise photo copy is sufficient. But if you have extra originals, there is no harm in sending one of that. All the documents, certificates, letters or notes etc other than in English or French should be translated.

The guides are a great source of information and can answer many questions.

According to page 2 of the regional guide

"Send originals of the immigration forms (items 1 to 5 below) and police certificates. Send photocopies of all other documents, unless instructed otherwise.[/b]"

an example of otherwise instructed is from the check list police reports

"Police certificates or clearances from each country in which you and every one in your family aged 18 years or over have resided six months or more since reaching 18 years of age. You must attach the original police document(s)."

Also in the regional guide (as it has been said over and over again)

"If your documents are not in English or French, send a notarized (certified) translation with a copy of the originals."

Therefor since the affidavit is in Italian (and not English or French) it will have to be translated.

(personally I would be sure to keep the originals in a safe place as I have read cases where the embassy has asked for them later in the process)
