Hello,

I believe I know the answer to my question but I needed a second opinion

Context :
- I'm currently under a French Mobility Work visa, I have submitted my resignation letter to the company so I should be stopping my contract with them by next week. So that will leave we with the ability to stay in Canada but not being employed.
- In the same time I have registered my company name so I can be doing business as a sole proprietorship / free-lance in the near future.
- I am also in the process of a spouse sponsorship for the permanent residency, witch will give me access to an Open Work Permit. this Application was submitted by February 23, I believe that the turn around time for the OWP is 4 month so I should get it around the end of June.

Question :
- Am I allowed to work as a freelance while waiting for my OWP ?

No - you are not allowed to work as a freelancer while waiting for your OWP. You must wait until the OWP is approved before beginning any work as a freelancer. If you work before then, you'll be engaging in illegal work which is a violation of your status in Canada.

FYI - we see most OWPs take 3-4 months but have seen the occasional one approved in 2 months. It's possible you might get lucky and have it sooner than 4 months.

I'm sure it can be possible but for now they have been taking their Sweet Time for all my immigration requests and as this isn't the first one I'll be very surprised if they treat it differently.

maybe stupid question but can I do a freelance gig while on french mobility ?
just want to know if I can do that before my contracts ends by the end of next week
