This question just popped up in my head.. So I thought I'd just ask.

I read somewhere in the other threads in this forum.. If I'm from a visa-exempt country, I could go to the States after my post graduate work permit expires, and come back later... but I won't be able to work (from my understanding, I can stay for a period of 6 months if I'm visa exempted).

I can't work for companies, but can I be self-employed? I've done translations and web design before. Or does "working" includes self-employment too?

Working includes self-employment.

Does it include self employment, but internationally? Meaning my assignments are from other countries, and they pay me via directly into my home country's bank account? Will that be considered illegal?

I've done assignments where I've never had to meet the other party in person.

There's lots of people who do translations internationally, and never have to meet up with the other party. I am fluent with 4 languages.. So I might as well make full use of that skill. In the meantime, I can also take the course to become a certified interpreter/translator with STIBC.

self employment without a work permit is not allowed in Canada.
source: I am self employed on a work permit

As long as none of the work is for Canadian customers/clients - it's fine.

I believe this is true. But ihabkal is correct, you should confirm with CIC.

Just a warning, tho, it can make for nightmarish tax accounting :)
