Hi,

I am a Naturalized Canadian National residing in Pakistan for the past 4 years. I got married a year ago with a Pakistani National. Now I wish to move to Canada with my husband and settle there. I had intentions of applying for spousal sponsorship from Pakistan but the processing time is too long i.e. 32 months.

Therefore, I was hoping to apply for my husband's visit visa i.e. Temporary Resident Visa and accompany him to Canada with intentions of applying for inland spousal sponsorship during our stay there.

However, we had a few concerns of our own that we were hoping to clarify prior to proceeding any further:

1. Since I will be travelling with my husband to Canada, do we still need the "letter of invitation" as per the requirements of visit visa?

2. What are means of extending my husband's stay in Canada with me until his PR application is processed?

3. Is it possible to apply for my husband's inland spousal sponsorship while he stays with me in Canada as a tourist?

Any assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It's better to apply for sponsorship.

Pakistani applications are now being processed in London and the timeline is not so bad.
Apply for sponsorship as soon as possible.

TRV requirements are too many, and its temporary anyway

Hi Canvis2006,

Appreciate your prompt response. Where does is state on cic.gc.ca that Pakistani applications are being processed in London?

We do agree that TRV is temporary and chances of being granted the visa are minimal. But in the event that he is granted one, for how long can he get his visa extended so that he is able to stay in Canada during the time it takes for his PR card to get processed?

Thanks

1. yes
2. If he gets a TRV (unlikely), he can apply to extend it. Some people on this forum have kept extending their visas for a couple of years. If you apply for inland sponsorship, he should have no trouble staying in Canada for processing.
3. yes

Since you are a Canadian citizen, you can apply to sponsor him while you are living outside of Canada. However, you would then have to prove that you intend to return to Canada.

You can look at the Islamabad threads on this very forum: They're all being handled through London.
Islamabad office is just for interviews and/or Visa issuance. Everything is being processed in CHC London.

Best to apply for sponsorship now. You should be done within a year or so.
