Hello,
Just for background: I am in the process of preparing to apply for Canadian PR through spousal sponsorship. I presently reside in Canada with my common law partner (Canadian Citizen) and I hold a post graduate work permit. I am a U.S. citizen.
My question is about supplying parental information on the Schedule A form. This form requests parental information (Name, DOB) and then asks background check questions that apply to the application (myself) and their parents.
While I technically know the name and date of birth of my father I have no relationship with him and have had no contact with him in almost 20 years. I don't know where he lives or what he has been up to, but I do know that he has been incarcerated which is one of the questions on the form. I don't know any of the details surrounding his incarceration(s).
On the form there is an option to select "unknown" when providing a parents details but I don't know if that is acceptable for my case as I do know his name and birthdate.
I am wondering how I should approach dealing with this form without associating myself with my absentee father's criminal history and without wrongfully omitting information from the form.
Thank you
